Gerald Anderson honored as Outstanding Volunteer for heroic typhoon rescue efforts

MANILA — Kapamilya actor Gerald Anderson was recognized as one of the Outstanding Volunteers during a ceremony held by the Quezon City local government.

The award highlighted Anderson’s courageous efforts during the recent typhoon that caused massive flooding in Metro Manila, leaving several areas submerged.

In the aftermath of the storm, Anderson sprang into action, assisting in rescue operations and providing aid to affected communities.

During an interview at the event, the actor expressed gratitude for the recognition while emphasizing that his actions were driven by a desire to help, not to gain accolades.

“Nakaka-inspire, nakakatuwa. Sana maging inspirasyon siya sa iba. Hindi natin ito ginagawa para ma-recognize o mabigyan ng award. Sa mga panahon na ‘yun, wala kang ibang iniisip kung ‘di makapagbigay ng tulong. So for people to give me recognition dun sa ginawa ko, siyempre nakaka-inspire,” Anderson said.

This is not the first time the actor has been lauded for his public service. Anderson was promoted within the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, rising from Auxiliary Commander to Auxiliary Captain. He also announced plans to build a dedicated team under the Coast Guard to focus on rescue operations during calamities.

In addition to his volunteer work, Anderson teased fans about his upcoming series “Nobody,” set to premiere next year. He revealed that production is underway, with minor adjustments being made to ensure the best outcome.

“Nag-start na kami, may binabago kaunti, so ‘yan, malapit na din. Dapat abangan,” Anderson said.

The series marks a special collaboration with actress Jessy Mendiola, who is making her much-anticipated return to television.
